Over the years, the Legend of Zelda series has seen a lot of strange bad guys.
Since the first Legend of Zelda game came out in 1986, players have met a huge number of bad guys. Ganon, Link and Zelda’s strong enemy, has been a problem for players since the very first game. But Ganon isn’t the only evil force that has caused death and damage in Hyrule.
In The Legend of Zelda series, there have been a lot of great villains who haven’t been used much. Some of them have strange backstories, personalities, and looks. Even Ganon has some strange traits, like the fact that no one knows exactly how he came to be.
Zant

In The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Zant is an unknown person who is the main enemy. The Twili magician is one of Ganondorf’s followers, and he used to work for the royal family of the Twilight Realm. Zant thought he was meant to take the throne, but Princess Midna took his place because he was a bad leader. Zant wants to take back the throne and become the real King of Twilight so badly because he has Ganondorf’s power.
Aside from his strange look, what makes Zant a strange villain is how he acts. He is very set on becoming King of the Twili, but no one ever says how he is related to the royal family. It could just be that he is Midna’s forgotten brother or sister, or it could be a dream he has while working for the royal family. Stranger still, unlike the Twili, Zant doesn’t have to hide in the darkness when he moves around the World of Light. He also doesn’t need to use the Mirror of Twilight to move between the World of Light and the Twilight Realm.
Dark Link

Dark Link, on the other hand, is the Hero’s bad side. Both forms pose challenges to the player over the course of the series, but Shadow Link is much more sneaky than Dark Link. When players go into temples or certain dungeon levels, they often run into a copy of Link. These copies are often the end bosses.
In The Adventure of Link, Dark Link is the final boss, and he shows up for the first time out of the blue. Dark Link seems to bring out Link’s strength and bravery in a way, since he has to fight himself. Unfortunately, this means that moves and tactics are often repeated, which makes these fights especially hard for players.
Majora’s Wrath

Even though it is the main bad guy in Majora’s Mask, no one knows where the intelligent object came from. The only thing Tunnel Rush players know about it is that it was given to the Happy Mask Salesman and that whoever wears it will be taken over by it. The Happy Mask Salesman only knows that “Majora’s Mask caused so many problems that the ancients, afraid of such a disaster, put the mask in the shadows so it could never be used again.”
When the Skull Kid steals the mask from the seller, it slowly takes over his mind and changes the world, causing all of these problems. Link has to fight the mask’s physical form in the final boss battle, which leads to one of the scariest bad guys in The Legend of Zelda series.
Wizzro

In the spin-off game Hyrule Warriors, there are a lot of bosses, but the main bad guy is The Dark Sorceress Cia. Link and his friends will have to fight against a lot more enemies, like the Dragon Knight Volga and the Twisted Wizard Wizzro.
The strange thing about Wizzro, though, is that he used to be a cursed ring that held his soul. He would use this dark magic to take the life force of people who wore the ring, giving him even more power. In Hyrule Warriors, Cia uses her power to bring the spirit of the ring to life. This makes Wizzro and gives him his creepy look.
Ganondorf

Ganondorf is finally back in Tears of the Kingdom, but it’s still not clear where he came from. Ganondorf was the first male Gerudo to be born in 100 years. Because of custom, he was given the right to be either the King of the Gerudo or the Guardian of the Desert. Ganondorf was taken in by Twinrova and raised by them, but it’s not clear who his real parents are.
Ganondorf comes back in the games, just like Zelda and Link, either as a person or as Ganon, his true form. The fact that this trio shows up in every Legend of Zelda game stresses the fight between good and evil, which is still an important part of the series.
Twinrova

Twinrova is one of the most honorable bosses in The Legend of Zelda. He used to be the twin Gerudo witches Kotake and Koume for more than 400 years. Since they made Ganondorf into the bad guy he is, they have a lot to answer for when it comes to the evil in Hyrule.
Most of the time in The Legend of Zelda games, the Twinrova are against Link and make things hard for him. In Majora’s Mask, though, they help the Hero on his way. Kotake owns the Magic Hags’ Potion Shop. She asks Link to give her sister a Red Potion in the forest so that the Skull Kid won’t hurt her. In exchange, Koume gives Link a free trip of the river on a boat.
